The City of Greensboro begin installing barriers under the Gorrell Street Bridge along the Downtown Greenway on Murrow Boulevard on Thursday, February 22. The barriers are a proactive step to provide peace of mind and protection for vehicles and pedestrians as the City awaits the completion of the bi-annual inspection report from the NC Department of Transportation that is currently taking place. The bridge and Murrow Boulevard are both safe for all traffic.
On February 21, City staff learned that pieces of concrete appear to have dislodged from the bridge end span. The installed barriers will reduce the likelihood of incidents with debris, but will not impact pedestrian or vehicle traffic. When the inspection is complete, the City will identify any other required repairs and offer a timeline for implementation. In addition to the Gorrell Street Bridge, all bridges in the city limits are currently being assessed by NCDOT as part of its routine bi-annual inspections. The Gorrell Street Bridge passed its most recent NCDOT inspection in 2022.
