Interested in building a backyard bungalow, garage or basement apartment, in-law or mother-in-law apartment on your property? These types of living arrangements are officially called accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and the City is trying to simplify the construction and approval process for them.

The City’s Planning Department staff has drafted an update to the current ADU ordinance to achieve this goal. ADUs are basically small houses or apartments that exist on the same property lot as a single-family residence.

Learn more about the proposed ordinance changes at one of these upcoming virtual Open House meetings:
~ 5:30 pm Monday, January 22
~ 11 am Wednesday, January 24

Register to attend a Zoom meeting by emailing Chris Andrews, City land development manager, or calling 336-373-2918. Please specify which meeting you want to attend.

Visit www.greensboro-nc.gov/ADUs to review FAQs about the proposed ADU ordinance changes and read more about what ADUs are and how they can benefit a community.
