Interested in building a backyard bungalow, garage or basement apartment, in-law or mother-in-law apartment on your property? These types of living arrangements are officially called accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and the City is trying to simplify the construction and approval process for them.
The City’s Planning Department staff has drafted an update to the current ADU ordinance to achieve this goal. ADUs are basically small houses or apartments that exist on the same property lot as a single-family residence.
