City of Greensboro Announces Holiday Closings

City offices are closed December 25, 26 and 27, along with January 1, 2024, for the holidays. The following services and facilities will operate on a holiday schedule:

  • Trash and recycling collections for Monday, December 25, will take place on Tuesday, December 26. Tuesday’s collections will be Wednesday, December 27.

  • Trash and recycling collections scheduled for Monday, January 1, 2024, will take place on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Tuesday’s collections will take place on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

  • The White Street Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will be closed December 23, 24 and 25, as well as January 1, 2024.

  • The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will be closed for the holidays on the following dates: Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.

  • The Greensboro Public Library system and the Greensboro History Museum will be closed December 23-27, along with January 1, 2024.

  • The Greensboro Cultural Center will be closed December 25, 26 and 27, along with January 1, 2024.

  • Greensboro Transit Agency (GTA) and Access GSO services will be operating on a holiday schedule the following days:
    • Sunday, December 24 – normal Sunday service, with last trip at 6 pm
    • Monday, December 25 – no GTA or Access GSO service
    • Sunday, December 31 - normal Sunday service, with last trip at 6 pm
    • Monday, January 1, 2024 – no GTA or Access GSO service
    • Note: Free Fares on December 24 and December 31 for GTA and Access GSO.
    • The GTA Administrative offices are closed December 25, 26 and 27, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
  • Parks and Recreation administrative offices and Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation will be closed December 25, 26 and 27, and Monday, January 1, 2024. Other Parks and Recreation Services affected include:
    • Regional parks, including Barber, Country, Hester, Keeley, and Price, are closed on Monday, December 25 only.
    • Cemeteries are open to the public, but no services will be performed on December 24 and December 25.
    • Botanical Gardens, including Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, Greensboro Arboretum, Bog Garden, and Gateway Gardens, will be closed on December 25 only.
    • Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion, Barber Park Events Center, and Gateway Gardens Event Center are closed December 25, 26 and 27, and on Monday, January 1, 2024.  
    • Greensboro Sportsplex will be closed December 24-27 and on Monday, January 1, 2024. 
    • Smith and Trotter Active Adult Centers, Xperience @ Caldcleugh and all recreation centers are closed December 23-27 and again January 1, 2024. Griffin Recreation Center will also be closed Sunday, December 31.
    • Greensboro Youth Council office will close Monday, December 25, and reopen Tuesday, January 2, 2024.  
    • City lakes, including Brandt, Higgins, and Townsend are closed Sunday, December 24, Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
    • Gillespie Golf Course will close at 4 pm Sunday, December 24, be closed Monday, December 25, and return to normal hours of operation Tuesday, December 26.
Emergency service is available for water and sewer needs after normal business hours and on weekends. Water customers can call 336-373-2489 (CITY) to report water or sewer problems. After placing the call, please follow the prompts to connect to the Water Resources dispatcher.
