Greensboro City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba presented the proposed $749.5M Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Budget at the May 16 City Council meeting. The recommended budget includes a 4-cent property tax rate increase to 67.25 per $100 property valuation and a water rates increase of 8.5 percent. See the full press release.

There will be two City Council budget work sessions on May 23 and 25. Following a Budget Public Hearing on Tuesday, June 6, Council will have another budget work session on June 15, before budget adoption on Tuesday, June 20.

Council approved a resolution authorizing an economic development incentive to Phase Change Energy Solutions in an amount not to exceed $1,000 per job. The company is considering expanding its operations at a facility on Winston Street in East Greensboro, investing $4.2M in personal property and creating at least 51 new jobs. The average wage for the new full-time positions will be $79,118 with additional benefits, and no new jobs will pay below $15 per hour.
