At its February 21 meeting, the Greensboro City Council approved $375,000 for the Greensboro Science Center for a parking expansion of 200 spaces for the Battleground Parks District.
A contract for $460,000 was also approved with Reading Connections to provide ARPA enabled funding to support the Transformative Jobs Training Program. This program supports the City’s goal to strengthen the local economy through job creation and building a steady and growing tax base. It will provide job training tied to literacy and occupational skills to help alleviate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on disadvantaged populations and hard hit businesses.
The YMCA of Greensboro received $1M for the Restoring Hope Project to expand the Hayes-Taylor YMCA childcare center by adding a second floor. The expansion will allow 100 additional children to have access to quality after-school care and summer camps. This s part of the American Rescue Plan Act funding awarded on September 20, 2022.
The last agenda item was a resolution authorizing a Low Income Homeowner Assistance Pilot Program. This program has been developed to provide direct assistance to low income homeowners who are experiencing the rising costs of ownership.
