The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was an important battle of the Revolutionary War. On March 15, 1781, there was a clash between Lieutenant General Cornwallis's and Major General Greene's forces near modern-day Greensboro, NC. Although the British were victorious, more than 25% of the British forces were killed, wounded, or captured. British Statemen Charles James Fox famously said, "Another such victory would ruin the British army." Cornwallis abandoned his campaign for the Carolinas after the battle and turned his attention to Virginia, which ended with the Battle of Yorktown.
Each year, a Battle of Guilford Courthouse reenactment occurs at Jaycee Park. It is an extremely well-done event and fun and educational for any age group.
