This #WomensHistoryMonth we're celebrating the women who shaped Guilford County, and who continue to move us forward.
We start with Gertrude Weil, a passionate worker for civil rights & African American education efforts in the early 1900’s. On October 7, 1920, Weil organized a gathering of more than 100 representatives of women's organizations at the Old Guilford County Courthouse to dissolve the Equal Suffrage Assoc. of North Carolina and create the NC League of Women Voters. Today, a monument and trail marker at the Old Courthouse in Greensboro mark this important milestone in women's rights.
