From February 12, 2023 post.

Guilford County District 2 Commissioner Alan Perdue presented today at the 2023 National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Conference in Washington, DC, about the collaboration between the county and Guilford County Schools to enhance communications capabilities for emergency responders, especially inside of school facilities.

Perdue's presentation is part of the Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee meeting. This is a significant issue Perdue is familiar with in Guilford County and across the United States. The national conference began yesterday, Friday, Feb. 10 and runs through Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023.

The Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee handles all matters pertaining to telecommunications and technology policy, including, but not limited to, the county’s role as a telecommunications regulator, service provider, and consumer, along with cable services technology and implementation. It also covers information technology development and implementation, innovation, e-governance, and other related topics for counties across the country.

The goal of Perdue’s presentation at this year’s NACo conference is to help policy makers understand how a strong county and school system collaboration can enhance communication capabilities in new and existing schools for both building occupants and emergency responders.

Alan Perdue is serving his third term as the District 2 Guilford County Commissioner and has 34 years of experience in Emergency Services, having served as Emergency Services Director for Guilford County before retiring in October 2013. Perdue has been employed as Executive Director for Safer Building Coalition for just over nine years. After presenting at NACo, he will present at the International Wireless Conference and EXPO (IWCE). The IWCE is made up of critical communications professionals from manufacturers, consultants, public safety, etc.
