Guilford County Parks will open its three public pools beginning Saturday, June 11, 2022 for weekend use only. This is part of a phased-in approach to address the nationwide lifeguard shortage challenge while providing an enjoyable summertime resource experience that is focused on safety first. Pools affected by this announcement include Bur-Mil Park located at 5834 Bur-Mill Club Rd., Greensboro, Northeast Park, 3441 Northeast Park Dr. Gibsonville, and Hagan-Stone Park, 5920 Hagan-Stone Park Rd. Pleasant Garden.
Pool hours will be Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. with weekday hours expected to begin June 20. The daily entrance fee is $5 per person; children under 2-years-old are free. Memberships will not be sold this year.
Pools will open to prearranged groups at a limited capacity for staff and lifeguard training to enhance their skills and receive additional service training hours. These training sessions are not open to the public.
“Despite the nationwide lifeguard shortage, we’ve worked incredibly hard to hire, train, and certify lifeguard staff, but they need on the stand training to handle the large crowds we expect this summer,” said Dwight Godwin, Guilford County Parks Department Director. “We will continue to monitor this situation closely and scale up our operations as soon as we feel we can safely do so.”
Guilford County Parks is still accepting applications for seasonal employment by visiting guilfordcountync.gov. Those interested can click here to apply. The salary range for lifeguards starts at $15 an hour, and the salary range for pool supervisors starts at $18.50 an hour.
“We want to thank the public for working with us and being patient as we work to fill the staffing vacancies. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the pools,” said Godwin.
