High Point University issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.
High Point University prepares students for the world as it’s going to be with many opportunities on and off campus. On Wednesday, HPU students were given the chance to interact with multiple companies seeking to fill internships and full-time positions at the Career and Internship Expo.
Students dressed in professional attire and carried tailored resumes inside the Slane Student Center, ready to land the right job or internship. HPU’s Office of Career and Professional Development organized the event to connect undergraduate and graduate students with employers.
“I came to the expo because it’s a great way to network with companies and grow connections that HPU offers students,” said Michael Garcia, a senior from Huntsville, Alabama. “This gives me the opportunity to connect with a potential company that I may want to apply to, and if they see my application, they may remember the interaction we had at the Career and Internship Expo.”
Companies at the Career and Internship Expo ready to recruit HPU students included Coca-Cola Consolidated, Northwestern Mutual, the City of High Point and more.
Some of the companies in attendance have also created internships specifically for HPU students.
“We’ve always loved to cultivate our relationship with High Point University,” said Kiersten Ketcham, HR recruiter for Furnitureland South and a 2018 HPU graduate. “HPU students carry a certain finesse and confidence about them as go-getters, and they come into companies eager. There are a lot of life skills instilled here that are unique to HPU students to offer to companies.”
“The Office of Career and Professional Development is excited to host both an in-person and virtual Career and Internship Expo,” said Megan Parker, director of Corporate Relations at HPU. “These events give our students the opportunity to network with organizations and learn more about jobs and internships within the professional landscape.”
