As Guilford County Schools prepare for some in-person instruction, the district is closing Internet hubs and some learning centers that have served students lacking Internet connectivity during the school year's early days.
The Internet hubs and learning centers — located in area schools — have offered communities with poor Internet access another way for their children to participate in virtual learning, Guilford County Schools officials said in a release. However, to prepare those schools to receive in-person students starting on Oct. 20, the district has had to close the hubs down for the time being.
"Over the past several weeks, GCS has been able to help students access devices and the internet through our learning centers and internet hubs," Tony Watlington, chief of schools, said in the district's release. "As we transition into welcoming students back into classrooms, we hope this opportunity has been a helpful option for families who need this resource."
