Guilford Technical Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.

Hannah West, a veteran of nonprofit management and leadership, community development and donor engagement has been named director of the Guilford Technical Community College Foundation.

West, a GTCC graduate, will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the foundation, its strategic vision and operating excellence. She will also serve as the chief fundraising officer for GTCC.

The GTCC Foundation works to ensure education excellence through fundraising, advocacy, and promoting the awareness of the college’s positive impact on the community. In the past decade, the GTCC Foundation has provided more than $2 million in support services to enhance student access and success.

“We are pleased to welcome Hannah to the GTCC Foundation,” said Jan Knox associate vice president, marketing, communications, and the GTCC Foundation. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Foundation and the college community. Because Hannah is an alum, she is able to articulate the benefits of an education from Guilford Tech and the needs of our students and community.”

West comes to the GTCC Foundation from Hospice of Davidson County where she was the director of community relations and responsible for strategic organizational plans for marketing, communications, public relations, community education, fundraising and development.

She instituted a comprehensive grant strategy for Hospice of Davidson County and led a funding campaign in 2020 that reached 99 percent of its $2.3 million goal while transitioning to a totally virtual effort during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prior to Hospice of Davidson County, West spent time with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in New Bern as the organization’s outreach coordinator. Her additional nonprofit experience includes working with the Out of the Garden Project in Greensboro as the summer enrichment site director and volunteer coordinator through AmeriCorps Partnership to End Homelessness.

West has a bachelor’s degree in leadership in the public sector from N.C. State University and an associate degree in arts from GTCC. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
