Guilford College issued the following announcement on July 16.
Get to Know Your 2020-21 Peer Guides Part 2
Incoming first-year students are paired with a Peer Guide who helps them through various obstacles that come up during the first year of college. These students go through a rigorous selection process that includes a short teaching presentation, and once selected they spend a portion of their summer training with the Guided Discovery team. This three-part series will introduce you to each of the more than 20 Peer Guides. Check out the second group below. (Meet the first group of Peer Guides in Part I.)
Nile Whiteman ’23
Nile is a Public Health major from Greensboro, N.C. She chose Guilford because of the College's loving atmosphere, and her favorite memory of her first year was Homecoming 2019. "Everyone here is like family!" she says. A fun fact about Nile is that she is a member of Guilford's CNC Step Team.
Hannah Adams ’23
Hannah is an Education Studies major with a minor in Psychology. She was born in Florida and raised in Greensboro. Guilford's small campus made it the right fit for her, and her favorite part about her first year was meeting all of the different, fabulous people that make up Guilford’s community. Hannah chose to be a Peer Mentor to aid incoming students and be a helpful resource to all. A fun fact about Hannah is that she enjoys poetry.
Morgan Goins ’23
Morgan is a Criminal Justice major from Greensboro. She chose Guilford because she felt like she was at home the minute she stepped on campus. Morgan loved many parts of her first year, but Homecoming was her favorite because she and her friends had a great time.
Morgan wants to be there for others like her Peer Guide was and still is there for her. She and her Peer Guide are now close friends, so Morgan wants to give advice to someone who is in the position she's been in. Fun facts about Morgan are that many people call her “Mo,” — and she has a twin at Guilford but they’re not related!
Juliana Hubbard ’23
Juliana is an English major with a double minor in Business and Psychology from Pittsboro, N.C.
She chose Guilford because she wanted a small school where she would be surrounded by a team of faculty, staff, and students who will help her grow and find success. Juliana’s favorite part about her first year at Guilford was the sense of community she immediately felt coming onto campus. “As soon as I arrived I felt like I was part of a big family,” she says.
Juliana chose to be a Peer Guide because she wants to help guide incoming first-year students through their first year. She wants to pass on knowledge and encouragement to the incoming class. A fun fact about Juliana is she helped run a tutoring center in her high school where she tutored students in English, math, history, and organizational skills.
Emma English ’23
Emma is a Political Science and English double major from Wichita, Kan. She chose Guilford because of the incredible community on campus and the values Guilford has around social justice. Emma's favorite part of her first year was meeting new people through clubs like Guilford’s Women and Non-binary Student Association, Amnesty International, and Church Under a Bridge.
A fun fact about Emma is she has moved 14 times! She chose to be a Peer Guide because she is looking forward to getting to know the Class of 2024. Emma hopes to be a positive part of their first-year experience!
LaTaylin Maxwell ’23
LaTaylin is a Criminal Justice major from Statesville, N.C. He chose Guilford because he wanted the at-home feeling his high school gave him and Guilford fit the picture perfectly. LaTaylin's favorite part of his first year was meeting new people and making lifelong friends who support him through everything he does. LaTaylin became a Peer Guide because he held a similar position in high school and loved helping people. Being a Peer Guide in college gives him another way to help others. A fun fact about LaTaylin is he once met DC Young Fly at a party!
