Guilford County issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

Gibson Park will not be stocked with trout this winter. The Bobby N. Setzer State Fish Hatchery, the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s largest trout hatchery, was severely impacted by flooding on Aug. 17 by Tropical Depression Fred. Approximately 67% of all hatchery trout were lost, and many buildings and hatchery systems sustained some level of storm damage. The winter trout stocking program is scheduled to resume in December 2022, pending fish availability.

The Gibson Park pond, at 5207 W. Wendover Ave., is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It continues to be stocked with Channel Catfish throughout the year. Fishers can also take advantage of the ample fishing opportunities at other Guilford County Parks such as Bur-Mil, Hagan-Stone, Northeast Park, and the Guilford County Farm.

Fishing is allowed at several Guilford County Parks. Lakes are governed by the NC Wildlife Commission rules and regulations. All fishermen age 16 and older must have a fishing license. Please verify license information with the NC Wildlife Commission before you go fishing. To buy your license online, visit the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s website. As a reminder, all anglers should practice social distancing and maintain a distance of 6 feet between themselves and others.
