Details:

Join us for a virtual visit with author Elisheba Haqq as she reads from and discusses her memoir Mamaji.

“Mamaji” is a Hindi term meaning “respected mother.” Haqq has written her memoir exploring connection with the mother she lost when she was just three years old. Like many traditional South Asian households in the ’70s and ’80s, the backbone of the family was the nurturing presence of their mother. The dynamics of the passing of Haqq’s mother and her father’s immediate remarriage were the catalysts that began years of cultural isolation and an oppressive home environment.

This book explores, grief, and more than that, family, love and camaraderie between siblings, the pressure to appear as the “perfect immigrants” and navigating expectations of what it means to be an Indian-American living in the United States. For more information or to register for this virtual event please email or call (336) 297-5000.
