As of the first quarter of 2026, Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center was recognized as Randolph County’s third largest nursing home, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility operated with 100 available beds, a figure 20 fewer than Randolph County’s average during that time. It supported a daily average census of 93.3 residents.

The overall CMS rating for Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center was 2 out of 5, which is below the North Carolina nursing home average of 2.9.

For the quarter, Alpine Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro led the county in capacity with 238 beds, followed by The Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center with 128.

Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center had paid $32,273 in fines and incurred one penalty as of the first quarter of 2026.

Randolph County, North Carolina, was home to six for-profit nursing homes in total.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the country’s older population is increasing while younger groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew in number by 13%, contrasted with a 1.7% decline for the population under 18. The older adult population has expanded significantly over the last century, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study indicated that close to half of this group, around 28 million individuals, might need long-term services or support. The research also predicts more than one-third may eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education entity. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
